Climate crisis

I don't need to explain what the climate crisis is. If you feel the need to challenge me using that term, I expect you to read all wikipedia pages on the subject first, before discussing it with me. I've cultivated a reasonable amount of patience, but I'm not willing to spend it on science deniers. That should illustrate my position on the subject.

The breakdown of solutions to climate change is also quite well described by project drawdown. I'll keep this short and try to share a few tips and reminders that might help you. Let's do that first, and then maybe I'll drop some of my opinions at the bottom, because this wiki is a braindump after all.

Remember:

  1. avoid being a doomer there's nothing as paralysing as the loss of all hope;
  2. maximize use of solar energy the energy of the sun is the least harmful energy source for life on earth;
  3. minimize the unnecessary use of energy using energy is very likely to do some harm, doing nothing is often a great idea;
  4. spread the word on climate change and biodiversity loss, it boggles my mind how many people are still rather clueless about it, or actively spreading lies.

Solving big problems, is hard as always. As I just did above, it helps to distill them into behavioral rules and actions through goals.

Dispair is an emotion that many of us feel when facing a problem that seems to big for us to solve. When asked “What is the hardest thing you ever had to do?” on a seminar, Thích Nhất Hạnh answered: “Not giving in to dispair.”, which I think illustrates how common this is, and how hard to avoid. Luckily there are helpful methods to stay sane and happy to avoid being overwhelmed by this emotion.
